Update: Poker professional Josh Arieh lives in ATL.

homestar.jpgJuly 10, 2004Everyone knows Outkast are from Atlanta. As is Ted Turner. What I recently discovered is that the duo behind Homestarrunner.com are also from the area. Other famous (to varying degrees -- see this Let's Get Famous post for more about "fame") residents include designer Todd Dominey and the late Margaret Mitchell, writer. I also have reason to believe that the offices of Adult Swim are in this fair city, and am working to confirm.

Top pizza in ATL

Little Five Pizza

You're looking at two slices of "the special" from Little 5 Pizza (also available at Fellini's). This is one of the best pizzas in town. There are other excellent pizzas in town, but this one is tops for me. It has everything: pepperoni, sausage, ham, olives (black and green), onions, green peppers, mushrooms and probably some other stuff hidden underneath the generous helping of cheese. (The knife and fork are required utensils because the crust can't handle the weight of the toppings.)

Other top pizzas: Savage Pizza and Mellow Mushroom

Chuck Taylor: Club Print OxInspired by Mike's recent shopping spree, I, too, bought some new shoes (pictured right). Chuck Taylors must be the most versatile shoes around. There's a pair for pretty much every occasion, even to go with your pin-stripe suit.

The instructions recommended two people to to put this thing together.

I also recommend two people.

Just when you think you're making progress, the pieces start separating. I had to start almost completely over a couple of times because the lower shelves would misalign as I tried to add on the higher shelf pieces. Lifting it up was hard, too. I head to wedge cardboard underneath it a piece at a time until there was enough room for my fingers to grab on. It's ineffably heavy.

But now it's done and I can unpack my boxes to populate the cubes (next episode).

Fly fishin'

I went fishing this weekend. It was the first time I've been fishing in at least eight years, and the very first time I've been fly fishing. At first I was intimidated by the fly rod -- I've always considered fly fishing the pinnacle of angling.

After a couple of beginner's tips from my uncle and a few casts, I learned it's not as difficult as I imagined. That's not to say there's no skill involved; far from it. There's definitely a learning curve and I'm at the bottom. It was fun to learn and slowly let out the line, though, but there were times when my cousin and I sat in the canoe and just watched the skilled anglers, hoping that maybe fly fishing skills were somehow passed down genetically.

I managed to get two fish on my line (not at the same time), but both got away before we could get them in the boat.

I'm going to go watch "A River Runs Through It" in slow-mo now.
